Magazine Review

I came across a new magazine the other week. I can highly recommend The Edible Garden magazine (I think the garden is edible, not the magazine). I am pretty sure this is a fairly new magazine, this Autumn and Winter issue was only issue 2. The next issue, Spring is due out in March. This is quite a big, heavy, glossy magazine at a pricey £4.99 per issue, but I can easily see it being picked up and read over and over again throughout the season.
This issue has a review of several kitchen gardens like West Dean, Heligan and Knightshayes in Devon which are open to visitors, a lovely article about crop rotation, growing pumpkins, quince and beekeeping, as well as a wonderfully illustrated article about the magical world of forcing rhubarb at Janet Oldroyd's Yorkshire Rhubarb company.
Treat yourself to a copy of this magazine, see if you think it is worth £4.99. I do!

We'll have to take a look - interestingly we've visited Heligan and Knightshayes and live next door almost to Oldroyd's Farm. It's amazing what a celebrity she has become as when I was a child her family was just one of those growing rhubarb - nothing special.

I've seen it advertised in 'The English Garden' magazine - was tempted, but really, really, really... shouldn't be buying any more magazines!!

Looks interesting. What free seeds did you get?

I haven't heard of this magazine. I'm trying to curtail my spending on magazines, I've spent far too much on them in the past, so I'll try to resist for now.

Rachael - free seeds were chocolate cherry tomatoes! I love these!

Hi Matron, I don't mind paying for a magazine as long as there is something in it other than ads. The only problem I would have with it is that I'm trying to wean Tess off magazines, the last thing I need is for her to see one that actually states its edible. By the way thanks for the video of the blind dog, it's amazing.

I noticed that magazine in the shop this week (it didn't click with me that it was a new mag); I picked it up and almost bought it, but I'm trying not to buy things at the minute so in the end I put it back. Now I wish I'd bought it!

Big sigh....I wish, I wish I could get the same wonderful gardening magazines over the pond. Well, I can, but the cost is proibitive. When I visited England I scooped up every gardening magazine I could fine :-)
