Matron's Flower Show
This week in London it's the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. This week in Hillingdon it's Matron's Flower Show! I know where I'd rather bee. Actually, I am leaving for a short break cruising the Norwegian fjords tomorrow, so I'll leave you with my flower show.

Great photos Matron. I really like the striped bumble bee, ours are not nearly as stripy. The spinach flowers are interesting, never seen them before.
ReplyDeleteI second that - great photos, gal after my own heart with all those fruit & veg blossoms to feature. Never got spinach to do much, guess I need an acidic corner or container next time I try. Hadn't realized that about it needed a different pH from the rest of what I like to grow for salads. Have fun on the Fjords, my ancestral home waters that I've never visited! Maybe someday.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful floral display – aren't veg flowers beautiful! The chive flowers are particularly good this year, I sprinkle them on all sorts of things - salads, risottos, scrambled eggs...

ReplyDeleteBrilliant - my kind of flowers! Proper flowers that insects and feed off, that aren't all flourescent orange with pink stripes, etc etc (I'll let cork the rest of the rant).

ReplyDeleteThanks for all the encouraging comments! The bees just love all these flowers and not only that, they seem to prefer them to 'other' flowers! Perhaps vegetable flowers make more of an effort to attract bees.
ReplyDeleteMissed your blog Matron. It has been busy here. Nice to see Tikka and Korma. I was thinking of you about sending you some duck eggs and asparagus, but I see you got your own. They are Rhode Island Reds...if you were wondering. They should lay good eggs. If you give them some corn the yolks will turn delicious orange. I think you should get some ducks : ). Have a great summer. ( I wished you lived closer...would have begged for some gooseberries...yum!)

ReplyDeleteYour flowers are lovely, even the broccoli! I have kale blooming right now, and the blooms are similar. I am pleased to be seeing different kinds of bees around, too.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I've come to appreciate the flower display that fruits, herbs and veggies put on as much as the one that annuals and perennials put on. This year I'm smitten with the strawberry flowers--first go at growing them.
