Matron's Naughty Vegetables!

I told you I couldn't grow carrots! Do you remember that a few weeks ago I gave Buddy a DNA breed test? I was curious to find out what breeds were in the mix... to make this fine fellow. Well, the results are in. They are shocking! Apparently he is 75% German Shepherd, 25% Border Collie....and wait for it...
25% DALMATIAN!......
I nearly fell off my chair! then I found some spots!

    Is he 125% dog?

  3. That did make me smile - Buddy the Superdog, all 125% of him!

I wonder what Ollie would have tested? Part Bearded Collie, part human, part complete so-and-so, part too-damn-clever-for-his-own good, and 100% unique.

  4. That's a cool test. I can see Dalmatian in his profile ... and now, the proof is in the pudd... err paw.
    Nice shoes Matron !

  5. Wow!!! I feel so smart! Your dog reminded me very much of a dog I used to see often at the park named "Supreme". Supreme is a mix of Dalmatian and lab - there is something about your dog's chest and front legs that totally reminded me of Supreme and now I feel so justified - wow! Supreme is jet black with white chest and paws, and a touch of gray at the muzzle. Very slick hard coat. That is really interesting and thanks for sharing the results!
PS: Love the carrot, that's great!

  6. Dalmatian? Wow! Who would have guessed. Perhaps I need to do that for Jake dog since we have no real idea what he is mixed up with.

  7. I forgot to mention the 50% cheesehound....er that should be 50% GSD..oops!

  8. I nearly didn't visit this post for fear my delicate sensibilities would be offended ;-)

But so pleased I did to find out Buddy's dogenetics. When you look at him you can see all three of those breeds - clever!

  9. Maybe most of the Dalmation bit is inside?

  10. Dalamtion eh? - I never would have spotted that one!!!

I've just been catching up on your posts and I love the picallily recipe. I've not made any in ages, but I'm going to give your a go!

We made sloe gin and damson gin last year and they were great, but I've failed to pick any berries this year :(. Mind you, the redcurrant vodka turned out well and the redcurrant gin is due for bottling any time now :)

  11. Love the carrot pic, made me giggle like a shool girl, naughty carrot! How can your handsome dog be more than 100% dog in the first place, surely that was the most shocking discovery! He's gorgeous no matter was his DNA is (though is bloomin' interesting to find out, thanks for sharing).

  12. Hi Matron, Another thing I notice about Buddy is that he's 125% dog, how do they work the percentages out I wonder? Bob.

  13. I wouldn't have been able to guess any of those. I always think most dogs are part lab. He sure is cute!

  14. I had to laugh on the percentages... scratching my head... ummm... I know I am not good at mental math but ...125%? LOL!

Interesting to hear what the composition is - certainly a good mix based on how much you obviously love him.

  15. LOL, who would have thought that your Buddy would be part spotless dalmatian? Well, almost. ;-)

Although Tara is 100% Kooikerdog I do suspect there is greyhound in her somewhere as she runs so fast, it's unbelievable. ;-) Either that or she is part Cheeta. LOL

  16. It's a miracle to me that carrots are so cheap in the supermarket! They seem impossible to grow - well I've never had any success with them anyway... :-(

  17. Sure they got the right DNA sample?

  18. Lilymarlene - you're right to query that mix. Actually he is 50% Beauceron, which is a French smooth haired shepherd dog (Berger de Beauce). This is not a common dog and the DNA was not on their database. The DNA computer finds the nearest similar match if it finds an unknown breed. He's not German shepherd.. he is French shepherd.
