Look what I grew in my airing cupboard!
It's just a shop bought kit, you just spread the bag of casing compost over the spawn impregnated straw
And keep moist in a warmish place - mine took just 18 days!
Like everything that you grow for yourself it tasted fantastic!
marvellous job Matron. I bet they taste wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI bought a kit a few Christmas's ago for a friend and treated myself too, then promptly forgot about it! I unearthed it in May and 2 years of sitting in a cold damp cellar was a recipe for disaster when I opened it. I inhaled a puff of overheated spores and ended up with mushroom workers lung and a cough for 5 weeks. I swear gardening is more like an extreme sport sometimes ;o)
Wow, that's amazing ! I don't recall success in previous attempts. A better kit this time or a different technique ?
ReplyDeleteI have been tempted to try a mushroom growing kit and now I am even more so! So it really was that easy huh?!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a harvest, will you get more?
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Is it a one time deal, or can you somehow get them to grow again? Sorry, I know nothing about mushroom growing, besides the ones that continuously grow in my garden beds.
ReplyDeleteThe instructions state that you should be able to crop for several weeks, but my experience of these kits is that after the first crop something happens to the fungus and it loses its oomph! wait and see
ReplyDeleteWow, no. Double WOW! Never in my life did I think those kits would work so well. What a harvest. I am not a fan of the humble mushroom but the hubby is - maybe a little suprise gift idea there. x
ReplyDeleteI grew shiitake mushrooms awhile back on a log, they were okay, but i wasn't convinced enough to do them again. These do look good though.
ReplyDeleteThose look good and I bet they tastd as good as they looked.
ReplyDeleteWell done. I have tried a couple of kits in the past and failed miserably. The only time I had a bumper crop was when I bought some used mushroom compost from a mushroom grower, forgot one bag which lay in the shade for months and produced dozens of lovely baby mushrooms which were delicious.
ReplyDeleteCool!
ReplyDeleteHi matron, well done we tried growing them outdoors ( in a cold frame) from seed but nothing came up .I have grown them in the past from recycled mushroom compost from a grower.
ReplyDeleteI love mushrooms... I've tried to establish various varieties in the woods at the back of my house, but without success, sadly. Those ones look good :)
ReplyDeleteYou know, I never really had a big relationship with the mushroom. I just read a blog that highlighted a beef and mushroom stew that looks delicious and them I see your post about growing your own mushrooms. I'm tempted. lol
